CREATING A DRIP EFFECT, USING GOLD LEAF
GOLD NEW YEAR’S EVE CAKE
Dani Brazier from Blue Door Bakery (www.bluedoorbakery.co.uk) shows you how to create a simple showstopper to ring in the New Year. Why not add a sparkly cake topper to complement the look?
YOU WILL NEED
FOR THE CAKE
• 15cm (6in) black fondant-covered cake
TO DECORATE
• royal icing
• gold lustre dust
• rejuvenator spirit
• edible gold leaf
• sprinkles (I used a gold and white mix from Super Streusel)
• piping gel
EQUIPMENT
• piping bags
• paintbrush
• cake tweezers
1 Mix some royal icing with water, starting with 4-5 tbsp of royal icing to
1 tsp of water. Mix well. If it’s not quite the right consistency, add more royal icing or water as needed.
2 You want a thick paste that ribbons easily off the spoon. Now leave to settle and count to 12-15 seconds.
