There was something magical about taking a train that began at home and took you anywhere you wanted. This morning a photographer friend called me to say she had booked herself onto the sleeper that goes from Paddington to St Ives. My immediate reaction was to gasp, ‘Take me some pictures’ – I didn’t care what she used – hi-end SLR, mobile phone or Box Brownie – I just wanted the pictures so I could experience a little bit of her journey. Ideally I wanted her to email them to me right away but (particularly if she was using the Brownie) I was prepared to wait. The point of this story really is to say – isn’t photography wonderful?
