The Japanese works of art sale at Woolley & Wallis on May 21 includes this negoro-style lacquer tenmoku-dai (a stand for a tenmoku teabowl) from the Muromachi period (1333-1573).
This rare piece, once owned by author and British Museum curator Roger Soame Jenyns (1904-76) and purchased from Mayuyama & Co, comes from the collection of an English gentleman who bought it at Spink.
