There is clearly a great deal of affection for a certain kind of shooting game at Team Ladybug. The studio’s latest production, Drainus, has little concern for bullet hell’s convoluted scoring systems and dense arrays of swirling neon ordnance. Rather, it is a game of grand spectacle and soaring atmosphere that extends a tradition solidified by genre heavyweights such as Treasure’s Gradius V or Taito’s Darius Gaiden.
