What is dehydration?

If you feel thirsty, you need a drink.

Yet by the time you actually feel thirst, your body is already in a mild state of dehydration. ‘When your intake matches your body’s requirements, this is described as optimal hydration,’ says Dr Emma Derbyshire, nutritionist with the Natural Hydration Council (naturalhydrationcouncil.org.uk).
