THE CONJURING 2
CHARLES GANT
STARRING: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Frances O’Connor, Madison Wolfe
DIRECTOR: James Wan (CERT 15, 134 MINUTES)
THE PLOT: Enfield, north London, the year is 1977. Divorced mum of four Peggy Hodgson (O’Connor) is trying to hold it all together – and the evil spirit that’s terrorising her younger daughter Janet (Wolfe) isn’t helping. The family’s story makes front-page news, but is it to be believed? Ghostbusters Lorraine and Ed Warren (Farmiga and Wilson) fly in to assess the situation.

Tidy this bloody mess up or you’re grounded
WHAT’S RIGHT WITH IT? Director James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring) sure knows how to tell entertaining, characterdriven stories while throwing a bunch of scary stuff at the screen, and the famous tale of the Enfield haunting proves ripe for exploitation. The ’70s setting – Starsky & Hutch posters on the wall, David Soul on the soundtrack – is amply evocative.
