FIRST APPEARANCE: ScotRail ‘Highland Explorer’ units Nos. 153380 and 153305 are pictured on January 22 following arrival at Fort William from Eastfield depot on the first of a series of driver training workings. During the summer timetable, one of the units, which feature bicycle spaces, charging points and improved seating, will form part of a morning service from Mallaig to Glasgow Queen Street and evening return
train.

A FURTHER trio of Class 91s have been sent to Newport Docks to be scrapped.
Nos. 91112, 91115 (still carrying its Blaydon Races nameplates) and No. 91125 left Doncaster Belmont Yard, bound for Sims Metal, behind Rail Operations Group No. 37510 Orion on February 3.
LAST APPEARANCE: Pictured alongside Class 800 No. 800016 on its last day in service as a power car with Great Western Railway, Class 43 No. 43022 Nether Stowey Castle departs Highbridge & Burnham for Taunton on January 21. It is the first power car from the ‘Castle Class’ sets to be withdrawn in operational condition. All the trains are due to be removed from service by the end of the year.
