Cairngorm Mountain funicular reopens
THE Cairngorm Mountain Railway, which claims to be Scotland’s only funicular railway, reopened on January 26, following significant engineering works and testing. The 1¼-mile (2km), 6ft 6¾in-gauge line takes snowsports enthusiasts and other mountain visitors to the top of the slopes at 3500ft (1065 metres) in around five minutes. The railway opened in 2001 but has been closed since October 2018 due to structural issues. Reinstatement work has included strengthening the viaduct and installing a new control system.
