Your Dog Magazine August 2024 Back Issue

As I write this, the patio doors are open, and the sun has just set, casting a warm glow over the garden. The dogs are sprawled out on the cool concrete, and today, there’s a peaceful harmony between the cats and dogs, each respecting the other’s space and sunshade.
We’ve seen the headlines about European heatwaves and flash floods. Even here in the UK, the weather seems to be changing. This year’s rain has been different, and it’s hard to ignore the impact of global climate change. I’m lucky not to live in an area prone to flooding, but I’ve still found myself contemplating how to prepare for extreme weather. With two dogs and two cats, the horrible thought of ever needing to evacuate adds another layer of concern for their safety. If you’ve gone through this yourself, we’d love to hear from you and learn from your experience, and by Autumn we’ll have put together an emergency guide on how to prepare for extreme weather with your pets.
But for now, I’m going to enjoy the rare sunshine, and introduce this month’s issue with you, packed with a variety of content…
We have features on beautiful summer destinations, an important update on the pet adoption bill (an idea suggested by our readers, and rightly so). Our expert vet Vicky Payne discusses the A to Z of summer dangers, and the fabulous Tony Cruse shares a detailed interview on the benefits of enrichment for our dogs. I am always incredibly grateful for the talented experts and writers who contribute to Your Dog (and thanks to the former editor, Sarah Wright, for assembling such a fantastic team)… Jackie Drakeford, Toni Shelbourne, Vicky Payne, Tony Cruse, Andrea McHugh, and Joanne Bednall. These mainstay names bring invaluable insights to our magazine each month.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we love putting it together.

I’m a new reader of this magazine, and absolutely love it. It’s a real celebration of dogs. Lots of good advice and interesting articles, and some wonderful real-life stories that illustrate just how amazing dogs are. A treat for genuine dog people. Reviewed 24 April 2020
