IT COULD BE HOME
KARISMA RECORDS
Don’t be fooled by the fact It Could Be Home leads with a cover of Marianne Faithfull’s As Tears Go By. There’s none of the original’s baroque, folksy beauty, nor the bucolic sweetness conjured up by its writers, The Rolling Stones, a year later. Instead, Plenty’s interpretation is built on muffled beats, a subdued arrangement of keyboards and guitars, and Tim Bowness’ distinctively breathy voice. The latter may be familiar: alongside Steven Wilson, Bowness fronted No-Man, as well as releasing four notable solo albums, and here their 80s references remain intact, not least on Broken Nights.
