SENSIBLE GRAY CELLS

DAMAGED GOODS
★★★
Originally formed seven years ago by Captain Sensible and Paul Gray - now joined by Johnny Moped drummer Marty Love - SGCs sound far less like punk nostalgia than one might expect. Sure, A Little Prick echoes The Stranglers, Sell Her Spark is a laddish celebration of Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park, and Stupid Dictators is plainspoken, if more like The Godfathers than the Test Tube Babies. Jam Tomorrow, though, nods to 70s pysch-rock, the title track is Madness with added keyboards, and I Married A Monster delivers taut new wave.
