“We’d been working on it for ages and I remember saying to Bob Kraushaar who was the assistant engineer: ‘This instrumental section needs something like a jazz guitar solo’. We’d been going around it for ages and I was really getting pissed off. I stood up to go to the loo, opened the door which opened up into a corridor, and as I did that Steve Howe [then guitarist with Yes] was walking past with a guitar case. I promise you that’s exactly what happened. I hadn’t met him at the time, so I told him my name and said: ‘I’m making this album and I can’t believe that you’re here because I’d just said [I need a guitar solo]’ and he replied: ‘Oh, I’ll come in and do it’. He walked in, plugged his guitar in, did the solo and walked out. Really, I’m not kidding!”
