1985 was a huge year for yours truly. In fact, it was Year Zero for my record collection, the year I bought my very first seven-inch. A few days earlier, my brother and I had been sat, eyes firmly fixed on Top Of The Pops, as the spectre of Pete Burns, in eye patch and flowing robes, swung the mic high above his raven mane, to fire up Dead Or Alive into their murky, clattering Hi-NRG hit, You Spin Me Round (Like A Record). For my younger self, it felt like some kind of lustful, forbidden sorcery had entered my world. Right there, I was truly awakened to the magic of pop. It was a huge record for its producers, Stock Aitken Waterman, too, initiating their Midas Touch on the charts.
