THE PL AYERS
JIM KERR
“I was probably turning into a bit of a bawler,” admits Kerr of his vocals at the time, in typically self-deprecating fashion.
“We’d been touring a lot, playing bigger venues. A lot of the songs were anthemic… Bob Clearmountain got a great sound, and the melodies were good… it wasn’t just the singing, it’s what you were singing. The sound of the band and all the voices all played a big part, too,” he adds, alluding to backing vocalists Robin Clark (one of the singers on David Bowie’s
Young Americans),
Carlos Alomar (Bowie’s guitarist in the 70s and 80s) and Michael Been of The Call.
