Tapes remains a definitive document of the band at the apex of their death-metal/prog years. Although they moved on to bigger venues, there’s something especially fitting about seeing them return to The Roundhouse off the back of their first album to feature death-metal elements in 16 years. But tonight Opeth aren’t just going through the motions; the setlist is designed to put the band through their paces. “These songs are fucking hard!” vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt bemoans jokingly. “Why couldn’t I just write a normal fucking riff?”
