Microsoft is reviving a desktop tool last seen in Windows Vista
What are they?
Animations and videos you can set as desktop wallpapers, giving you something more interesting to look at than a static image. They might be making a comeback in Windows.
When were they last available?
Back in Windows Vista, which launched in January 2007, but was superseded by Windows 7 less than three years later. The feature was called DreamScene.
Really? I don’t remember it in Vista.
That’s probably because you didn’t pay for any Ultimate Extras in the operating system. This was Microsoft’s short-lived scheme to sell bonus features – as well as DreamScene you got BitLocker (now in Windows 11 Pro), sound effects for pop-ups and alerts, and the games Hold ’Em poker and Microsoft Tinker.
