Switch to Affinity Publisher for newsletters
If you’ve been using Microsoft Publisher for newsletters, flyers or posters, you’ll need a replacement soon. As we explained in Issue 724 (page 62), Publisher will be discontinued in October 2026 — after that it’ll be unsafe to use or, in the case of Microsoft 365 subscribers, may stop working altogether.
Microsoft suggests using Word instead, but Word isn’t built for complex page layouts – anyone who’s tried lining up text boxes will know that. Fortunately, there’s a far better option. Previously priced at £60, Canva’s Affinity Studio is now free and includes Affinity Publisher, a professional desktop-publishing (DTP) tool as capable as Microsoft’s.
