The Institute of Electrical Engineers formed in 1871 as the Society of Telegraph Engineers. Members worked across Britain and in other countries for major employers such as Berry’s Electric in Birmingham and London, and the Bengal and Assam Railway in India. Membership grew from 1,760 in 1890 to 7,792 by 1919. Today it’s known as the Institution of Engineering and Technology -for its archives visit www.snipca.com/57603.
