Master ChatGPT’s BEST FREE APPS
From creating playlists to summarising PDFs, ChatGPT’s free apps promise more than just conversation. Jonathan Parkyn explains which ones are worth using and which you can ignore – for now
For many people, ChatGPT is something you use occasionally, alongside other software and websites. You might open it for a quick spot of research or when seeking advice, or help with writing an email. But once you have your answer, you quickly return to your familiar apps, websites and services.
ChatGPT’s new ‘apps’ feature is designed to change all that. It connects the AI chatbot to a growing range of services and tools from other companies, so you can perform tasks without ever leaving the chat window. The idea is to bring all your most used online tools into a single workspace where you can interact with them using plain English.
ChatGPT’s apps won’t suddenly unlock hidden features inside your existing services, and they’re not intended to replace their websites or programs. What they do offer is a simpler, more conversational way to search, plan, organise and create – often across multiple services at once.
It’s still early days for ChatGPT apps and not all of them are up to scratch yet (see box opposite). But others make it much easier to carry out everyday tasks, such as creating playlists of songs, planning trips and summarising PDFs.
