Morrisons’ store in Fort William has introduced a quieter hour for customers who would benet from a calmer shopping trip.
Designed to help customers who currently struggle with music and the other noise associated with supermarket shopping, the designated hour will begin tomorrow and then take place every Saturday from 9-10am in the An Aird store. The quieter hour has been created with the support of the National Autistic Society.
Many people who are autistic or those with autistic children can nd supermarket shopping an anxious experience. During the quieter hour the store will dim the lights; turn music and radio making tannoy announcements; reduce movement of trolleys and baskets; turn down checkout beeps and other electrical noises; and place a poster outside to tell customers it is quieter hour. Morrisons says it will also work to improve awareness among colleagues.
