Oban and Lorn Horticultural Society has mothballed next year’s show due to lack of support.
The society’s show in August saw an increase in entries after an appeal in The Oban Times but that interest has since wilted. Current secretary Sharon Black said notices of the annual general meeting earlier this month were sent out to everyone who exhibited or had exhibited in the past but only four turned up. One apology was received.
Society chairperson Fiona Morrison said the decision to mothball the society and its show for next year had been taken. ‘We were encouraged this year to see an increase in entries, especially children. However, the decision to cancel next year was reached as we were unable to fill the roles of secretary, treasurer and vice chairman,’ she said.
