Down in the depths
They may be feared by swimmers, but Ross McLaren shows off another side of the incredible jellyfish
Jellyfish have a bad reputation. They can be a real nuisance because even when they’re dead washed up on the shore, their tentacles can still pack a sting. However, they are absolutely mesmerising creatures to witness beneath the waves – from a safe distance, of course. Lion’s mane jellyfish are one of the most commonly found types in British waters, usually between spring and autumn, and can grow to incredible sizes.
