How to pack your kitbag and scout the best locations for dramatic conditions

Finding the right location is half the battle when it comes to capturing atmosphere, and your scouting should start with some research. If your travel distance is unlimited, look to Instagram, 500px and location guides such as Lonely Planet for inspiration. Some areas, such as The Dolomites in Italy, Milford Sound in New Zealand and Patagonia, South America, are eternally popular for good reason, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find good locations in your own country. Use personal contacts or local photographers to help guide you.
