One of the most challenging aspects of travel photography is that it takes you away from familiar ground and, consequently, any opportunities to replace equipment, maintain your gear and stock up on power and storage solutions. Add to this the difficulty in revisiting and re-shooting locations in the ideal lighting and there is plenty of scope for stress and frustration to develop.
For this reason, professional travel photographers have to make a great effort to plan as much of their trip as possible, down to the smallest detail and well in advance of their departure date. This is important when travelling for leisure, but even more critical when shooting for a paid assignment or attempting to capture as many sellable images as possible. After all, to a pro shooter, every excursion is an investment opportunity.
