STABILISATION
Although much of a good panning shot is about movement, it must be stable to make sure the focal point comes out sharp. “I use a gimbal head on my tripod so I can pan smoothly and track the red kites from my wildlife hide,” says Sean. “I switch the optical stabilisation mode on my Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM to Mode 2 as this only corrects for movement on the vertical axis. I don’t want the horizontal panning blur to be affected.”
