I am in the hot new lesbian bar everyone’s talking about. Hackney’s La Camionera went viral on opening night, when the streets of East London overflowed with thirsty sapphics. Standing here now, I take in the Mediterranean inspired décor, the sultry playlist, the L Word display in the corner. The beer garden is crammed with joyful, diverse queers, making the most of our new hangout. We’ve been waiting for a space like this.
There is definitely something sapphic in the air. After years of discourse about the “death of the lesbian bar”, La Camionera is proving the naysayers wrong. We have a new wave of saucily named, inclusive nights too: Strapped, Magic Dyke, WET. Here at DIVA, we’re celebrating this long-awaited “dyke renaissance” with our sensational six-page special (page 24).
