– Singer Troye Sivan, during his acceptance speech at the 28th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. Sivan, 21, is the youngest ever recipient of GLAAD’s Stephen F Kolzak Award, which is presented to an LGBTQ media professional for promoting equality and acceptance.

Human rights groups operating in the country fear they are being locked up “in connection with their non-traditional sexual orientation, or suspicion of such”. Three deaths are reported. The Chechen government denies all knowledge. One representative states: “You can’t detain and harass someone who doesn’t exist in the republic” – claiming there are no gay people in Chechnya.
