As much as we love them, the cold, hard truth is that the early Dr Who Annuals of the 1960s and 70s were a bit naff – full of wacky tales pitting ‘Dr Who’ against devil-birds, phaser aliens and sinister sponges, and padded out with mind-numbing articles about animal astronauts, pioneers of space and “the unknown world under the sea”.
