Dolls House World  |  Issue 383
We have some beautiful houses to show you this issue as talented readers tell us about their finished projects and share their ideas and inspiration.
Rachel Hinds loved the idea of painting twelfth scale pictures in the style of 19th century artists such as Turner and Constable. Only trouble was she didn’t have anywhere to hang them. No problem — she decided to build a Victorian house to accommodate them in the perfect setting.
“I think a lot of makers build houses they’d like to live in,” Rachel told us. And that certainly applies to her magnificent mansion. She likes to “to imagine shrinking myself and wandering through the rooms” and we think you will too. But Rachel reminds us it’s not all about the fun when you’re creating.
“It was a great experience except painting the bricks on the exterior, which was fun for about 10 minutes and tedious thereafter, and ditto for the roof tiles.”
Brenda Cook, working on her aptly named Casa Moneypit, also had a bit of an issue with her roof. She’d completed building the house from scratch but after she’d finished she wasn’t happy with the scale of the shingles. “Something was off. They were too big,” Brenda recalls. “I wound up ripping off every single one and creating my own using rough watercolour paper and a hole punch.”
Brenda had planned to make her own brickwork too but, after asking neighbours to collect egg boxes for a year, she decided to go down a different road, ordering 4,000 real mini bricks. Hope she found a use for the boxes.
Carleas Fleck tells us how she built her dream family home. She imagined the couple and their children who were slowly renovating the Victorian house, and decorated it accordingly.
Wherever you find your inspiration we hope we can help with your mini projects in some small way.
