The Wreck
O ne of the unfortunate quirks of the human brain is its habit of recalling unpleasant memories – often at the moment you’re least equipped to deal with revisiting them. Having been blindsided by the news that her mother has been placed on life support after suffering a brain injury, struggling screenwriter Junon is also forced to make the choice of what will happen to her. As if that wasn’t bad enough, putting her key in the door of her car sends her mind careening back to a devastating crash, recreated here in harrowing fashion as the car skids wildly before flipping over, emptying a satchel of objects (hairbrush, lighter, phone, compact) in slow motion. These items become further windows into the past, as Junon relives incidents in her life, processing them anew as a form of self-therapy.
