FB: What is crash protection, and what does it do?
AG: It keeps me in a job! It’s basically a range of accessories that gets added to your motorcycle after purchase that’s designed to minimise damage in the case of a little spill. In the case of racing they’re deemed essential, and we think it’s the same on the roads. The idea is that if you have a little off, you can pick the bike up and carry on your journey!
FB: How come new bikes don’t come with the necessary protection fitted?
AG: Originally, it was down to the manufacturers’ perception of liability and cost, as it can be viewed as a magical bubble and that could then cause agro! Don’t forget, a manufacturer doesn’t want to admit you might be dropping it either, as that’s a bit of a political hotcake that brings negativity. Lately though, manufacturers such as Kawasaki and KTM are getting involved with aftermarket bits!
