Bruce seemed a bit keen for me to ride his bike at Donny, which made me ask a few questions when its clutch cable jumped out down the start straight after just one flying lap in quali. I know he’s angry at being slower than me, but sabotaging my bike (again) is maybe taking things too far. Still, we’re brothers, so I got over it eventually… having been made to start even further back than him on the grid. I’ve done alright at the track before, but I just couldn’t get used to his bike. I love my Triumph, but it was nowhere near rebuilt in time for the meeting, so it was a case of riding the Yammy or jogging on.
The bike’s mint (I don’t understand why Bruce rides it so slow), but it didn’t feel natural to me and it took me ages to get my head around it. What should have been my fight back to my mate and championship leader Lee Wells just didn’t happen. And the more I stressed about it, the harder it was to ride. Don’t get me wrong, the pace was pretty hot in our class, with low 36s being the time to beat. But I know I could’ve nailed that on my Trumpet. That’s just the way it goes and there’s nothing I can do about it now. As hard as it was to stomach being off the podium in most of my races at least I was scoring some points, which will hopefully add up to prizes come the end of the season.
