LETTER OF THE MONTH

Don’t take your heart health for granted. Get it checked by a qualified medical practitioner

Wife knows best

I was fascinated by Sophie Freeman’s article about improving heart health (March, p60) for a number of reasons. One of which was because it made me think of my father, who died of a heart attack in his late 50s, during the 1980s. But also because, two years ago, a GP sent my wife for a routine heart calcium score test. She received an excellent result and then insisted that I also undergo the same test. I strongly resisted, protesting that I didn’t need one, but eventually agreed (I’ve always led a very active life with plenty of exercise – it was typical male head-in-the-sand stuff).
