Hollywood’s most glamorous A-listers hit the red carpet at the Golden Globes

Hollywood’s leading lights staged a masterclass in sartorial elegance last week as the Golden Globes returned in a whirlwind of silk, sequins and sheer star power.

And it was the more experienced stars of stage and screen who stole the show at one of the most glamorous ceremonies to date, with Julia Roberts receiving a standing ovation for simply walking on to the stage in Los Angeles to present an award.

Jennifer Lawrence, 35, signed up to the trend for barely-there glamour in a diaphanous mesh dress, intricately embroidered with pink flowers and green leaves by Sarah Burton for Givenchy.

Jennifer Lopez, 56, also adopted the look, posing on the red carpet in a Jean-Louis Scherrer gown by Stéphane Rolland.

At the other end of the spectrum was After the Hunt star Julia, who looked timelessly elegant in a black Giorgio Armani dress and Swarovski jewellery as she stepped up to present the award for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), laughing as she received an impromptu standing ovation from stars including Emily Blunt and Emma Stone.

“Wow. Thank you! I’m going to be impossible for at least a week. I appreciate that. What a great night. What a beautiful night to be an artist,” she told the audience inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel, before presenting the prize to the cast of One Battle After Another.

The Academy Award-winning star, 58, was joined on the night by contemporaries who have also retained their status at the top of the A-list.
