The proboscis, also known as the haustellum, is a tongue-like organ located at the front of a moth’s face. When the moth is feeding, the coiled proboscis unravels, reaching deep into a flower to collect its nectar. At the tip of the tongue are sensory organs called sensilla. Each sensillum contains many olfactory receptor neurons, which send information to the moth’s brain.
