Royal Navy Yearbook 2024-25, your annual guide to the Senior Service produced by the team behind Britain at War magazine, aims to profile the current state of Britain’s naval service, review its activities over the past year and look at future challenges.
It looks back at the important contribution the Royal Navy has made to keeping international sea lanes open in the Red Sea in the face of missile and drone attacks by Houthi rebels based in Yemen. It also takes a special look at the role of the Royal Navy’s submarine service, including profiling the nation’s first nuclear powered submarine HMS Dreadnought, which was decommissioned in 1980, and the shipyard at Barrow-in-Furness where Britain’s nuclear submarines are built.
It profiles the new HMS Dreadnought, which is currently under construction and will be the first of the Royal Navy’s new class of nuclear deterrent submarines. The status of the Royal Navy’s current fleet of warships and Royal Fleet Auxiliary support ships is profiled, and the work of Fleet Air Arms’ squadrons and commando units of the Royal Marines is also highlighted.
