Running has been transformative for me,” says Emma Manton, 39, an actress from south London. “Whenever I talk about the last few years, it still takes me a bit by surprise.
“I started running in 2014. A friend was training for her first marathon, so I thought I’d go along and see what this whole running thing was about. I was working away from home, in Stratford, and my son had just started school, so I suddenly had a bit of headspace to think, hang on, maybe this is something I can get on with.
“My friend was getting so much out of it and Stratford’s a beautiful place to run. Plus we were doing a play set in the trenches, and all the boys were doing a lot of fitness stuff to get ready for that, but the girls were just hanging on the sidelines, which didn’t seem much fun. So we ended up going running!
