We all know how hard it can be when your inner critic tries to tear you down. But when those around you start to do it, too, it’s indescribable.
Our cover star, 25-year-old Karen Gill, originally from Ireland, knows just how tough life can be when you’re subjected to persistent bullying. But despite admitting that her teenage years were the worst of her life because of bullies, she now acknowledges she’s a stronger person because of everything she has had to stand up to.
“My experience of bullying has made me a stronger person. And in the last few years I’ve not been scared to meet new people, try new challenges, push my body – to race and do marathons,” she says.
SHATTERED CONFIDENCE
Karen’s ordeal began when she was 14 and lasted for three years. While it’s hard for her to talk about what happened, she says the effect on her mental health has been both dramatic and long-lasting.
