HAS ROHAN SERVED HIS TIME?
OH Danny Boy - never mind the pipes, the Rhinos are calling.
Generally, I’m not one to suggest coaches should lose their job, and I think that in many cases, they have to carry the can for the failings of others.
But there are times when a change has to be made, and for Leeds, this is one of them.
Rohan Smith might have taken them to last year’s Grand Final, but this season, things just aren’t working, and that defeat at basement side Wakefield should have been his last at the Headingley helm.
I think he has to go, with Danny McGuire the man to replace him. Leeds need to bring their popular former player back home from Hull KR.
In this column two weeks ago, I tipped Wakefield to pick up their first win of the season at the Rhinos’ expense.
I said by eight points, and in actual fact, it was ten, which makes it worse still. But given what Leeds have been like, it was all too predictable and, for the fans, painful.
Credit to Wakefield, who have been awful for most of this year. They still face a massive task in avoiding the drop, but at least the two points gained from their 24-14 victory, which brought them to within four, rather than the previous six, of second-bottom Castleford, has provided a glimmer of hope, and will have the Tigers looking nervously over their shoulders.
