ROUND SIXTEEN
ROUND-UP
ALL hail King Gutho! In a Round 15 match held over until last Monday, captain Clint Gutherson registered a 20-minute hattrick as PARRAMATTA EELS swept the floor against a lacklustre CANTERBURY BULLDOGS side that never really got going.
Gutherson set the scoreboard ticking in the fourth minute, picking up the ball after Hayze Perham had knocked on a kick before the Bulldogs hit back through Matt Burton following a strong Karl Oloapu run.
The Eels fullback got his second soon after, running a beautiful inside line, and, to make it two in two minutes, Gutherson backed up a brilliant Mitchell Moses to canter over under the sticks.
Moses’ three conversions made it 18-6, but Parramatta weren’t finished there before half-time as Bailey Simonsson streaked home for a 24-6 lead at the break.
Canterbury had to score first following the resumption, but it was the Eels that made it four tries without reply, Will Penisini showing great strength to dot down.
