Darnell McIntosh scores Hull’s penultimate try
THIS was a monumental game for both sides but, in the end, it was Hull’s superior class and patience that shone through as the Black and Whites eventually ran out comfortable winners over Wakefield to keep their play-off hopes alive.
Tony Smith’s men needed to win to keep pace with the top six and led by just twelve points after a hard-fought first half. But they cut loose in the second 40, pulling Wakefield’s defence apart all over the field to notch up five tries to one and move to within just two points of sixth place.
It was a win built on desperate and resilient defence and a ruthless edge in attack, particularly in the second half, led by the outstanding Jake Clifford to subject Wakefield to another heavy defeat and send them bottom of the table in the process.
