Mats Tage Axelsson keeps learning more about Linux, even after all these years. How many? Guess!
Mats Tage Axelsson examines the potential of distributed messaging and federated authentication servers that use the Matrix protocol.
HOW WE TESTED…
We paid a visit to https:// matrix.to and got ourselves an account. If you want to try it for yourself, you can get an account there or somewhere such as https:// riot.im. Ideally you should use a password-supported account as many clients do that support SSO or OAuth2. Next, we went to https:// matrix.org to find clients.
Installing them on Linux was mostly a breeze thanks to the projects supporting plenty of distros and packaging standards. Figuring out how to log in and when you can use something other than password authentication was the first hurdle. After you’ve done it a few times it becomes obvious, but it differs in some details between apps and sites.
Lastly, we realised that in order to keep the account secure, there are several layers of functionality that you can deploy if you want to be diligent – which you should be, as one point of this network is privacy.
