N ew developer documentation from Valve (https://bit.ly/lxf284valvedoc) for game developers who want to create – or port – their games for the company’s upcoming Steam Deck handheld console recommends using Manjaro KDE for teams that don’t have access to early developer kits of the console.
While Valve has sent out dev kits to some teams, it wasn’t able to send them to everyone who wanted one. However, according to the documentation, developers can test their games using Manjaro KDE and either a PS4 or PS5 controller, which will “give you the best coverage for the kinds of input Steam Deck includes (as it has trackpad and gyro).” Manjaro KDE is Valve’s pick, because the Steam Deck will be running SteamOS 3, which, like Manjaro, is based on Arch Linux, and will use the Plasma desktop.
