T op spot goes to HandBrake. This is the most complete of the programs while still maintaining ease of use. Of particular note is the huge range of output presets, which mean you should rarely need to delve into the mysterious world of video encoding settings. Instead, just pick your intended use and let the preset take care of the details. The HandBrake GUI contains more options that the others, with the possible exception of Shutter Encoder, but it does so in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the user. The tabbed interface is a great help here, showing the details in small chunks.
