HEILUNG
The pagan-folk collective are bringing a little Babylon and Ancient Rome to the mix on their third album
WORD: MATT MILLS
HEILUNG ARE THE tribal chiefs of modern folk. Their ethereal chants and striking Norse imagery have enthralled metalheads, and the rest of the world is now catching on. Since they released second album Futha in 2019, we’ve heard Heilung soundtrack Vikings and trailers for The Northman. With Drif (rough translation: ‘Throng’) on the way, we checked in with the trio – producer/ multi-instrumentalist Christopher Juul and co-vocalists Kai Uwe Faust and Maria Franz – to see if mainstream relevance is sculpting their future.
