CASTLE RAT
All hail the Rat Queen! And beware the Rat Reaperess…
WORDS: ELEANOR GOODMAN
PRESS/COURTNEY HALL
When Castle Rat frontwoman Riley Pinkerton heard the music of Black Sabbath at the age of 18, her life changed forever.
“It felt like it formed a new neural pathway in my brain!” she exclaims. “I listened obsessively from then on.”
A few years later, she discovered ‘godfather of fantasy art’ Frank Frazetta, and made a pilgrimage to the Frazetta Art Museum in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where she ended up with tears in her eyes on seeing his original works. Her favourite painting of his is Cat Girl, showing a muscular young woman powerfully posing in the jungle, surrounded and mirrored by big cats.
