Stellar Circuits are pushing both individual and creative boundaries on their third album, exploring the relationship between light and dark while tackling themes of personal transformation and rebirth. There’s a lot going on across the 10 tracks, and styles vary, from the mellower, post-metal-influenced Silhouette to the Gojirainspired The War Within, yet nothing feels out of place in the overall context when the trials and triumphs of life are considered. The delivery is just as strong; you can tell that the band have put everything into their craft, and there’s a warmth that permeates the entire record. As a result, despite the changing time signatures and polyrhythmic guitar movements, Phantom : : Phoenix is an absorbing, vibrant listen that’s easy on the ear. ■■■■■■■■■■
