Felled trees can be seen at many locations around the UK, in urban and rural environments. Most pertinently for railway modellers, tree felling also regularly occurs beside the lineside.
Just one or two trees may have been cut down, or it may be that an entire embankment has been cleared. Leaves falling on the line is a perennial problem around the network and, where possible, Network Rail and its predecessors have felled trees as part of maintenance regimes.
Many branch and main lines also pass very close to managed woodlands, especially in more remote areas, so tree felling may take place on a more industrial scale in some instances. In many cases, the tree stumps are left in the ground, making for a nice and easy cameo scene for a model railway.
