Backscene
Too many projects, too little time. It’s a conundrum faced by many modellers. CHRIS LEIGH plans to organise his way out of it.
Did you notice how quickly the 70th anniversary of The Titfield Thunderbolt came and went? What’s that saying about ‘there’s nothing so old as yesterday’s news?’ Once the anniversary issue, MR320, had gone to press, my 4ft by 2ft ‘Titfield’ module was just in the way. It was built on top of a fiddleyard board from the ‘O’ gauge ‘Railway Children’ layout as I’d run out of flat surfaces to use as workbenches.
I offered ‘Titfield’ for sale, or possibly as a gift to the right applicant, and I’m happy to say that it is now in its new home. I had cash offers from individuals, a couple of applications from museums/ preservation groups, and a heartfelt message from a mum on behalf of her teenage son who has some special needs and whose local model railway club was willing to work with him on developing the ‘Titfield’ display into part of a layout. So that’s where it has gone.
