COLOUR RAIL
Locomotive: North British/Paxman D2/1 200hp 0-4-0DH
Gauge: ‘OO’
Proposed by: Harold Budd
What is it?
Despite the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) gaining a justified reputation as a leader within the realms of steam traction, its attempts to enter the diesel and electric locomotive market were less successful.
The Class 21, 28 and ‘Warship’ classes 41 and 43 all featured MAN power units, but were plagued by unreliability, as were the ‘AL4’ electrics (later Class 84).
